- How to read a train ticket in Ukraine ?

. Keep in mind that if you buy online, you should exchange it at the train station at least 10-15 minutes to the train departure. There is an special window for so, identified as “Internet Kasa”
. Also recently you have the name indicated in the ticket, so you should present your document to the wagon chief. If you buy to someone else, remember to insert the right details on it. When buying more than one ticket, will be printed one ticket per person, each of them with the respective names.

- From Poland to Ukraine

. Direct train Krakow – Kiev or Warsaw – Kiev
. Cheap Flights using Wizzair (www.wizzair.com) also Germany, Poland, Spain, Turkey, U.K., Georgia and Italy
. Train from Krakow to border (Przemysl), bus to Medyka border control, walk 10 minutes, bus to Lviv and train to Kiev

- From Romania/Moldova to Ukraine

. This can be made in different ways and depends on the week day you will have different schedules, so better ask people in RO to check for you the schedules.
. Direct train Bucharest – Kiev (very long ride)
. Bucharest – Chisinau (Moldova) by bus + bus to Odessa (Ukraine) + train to Kiev (you can visit Moldova, Odessa and will be relatively cheap)
* The Transnistria self proclaimed country has Tiraspol as it’s capital. Many embassies and people wouldn’t recommend you going there. It’s up to you, probably you will be paying some “fee” to enter and there is a hostel over there. Can be interesting, some hassle but as long as we have the hostel we never heard about serious problems over there.
. Transylvania (from Brasov, Sibiu or Shighsoara) you should reach Targu Mures and head to Suceava (the painted monasteries city), from there it’s easy to find private cars to Chernivitsi, southwest of Ukraine. Nice city and you can visit Kamenets-Podilsky, with it’s castles. There are 2 trains a day to Kiev from there.

- From Hungary to Ukraine

. You can take direct train to Kiev, around 16 hours and costs a good money.
. Another way it’s to brake the trip before the border and taking a bus to Chop, Ukrainian city where you can take train to Kiev.

- From Belarus or Russia

. Plenty of trains connecting Minsk or Moscow to Kiev. If you are in St. Petersburg and got a ticket to Kiev, pay attention on that, because this train will cross Belarus and you will need a transit visa at least.

- From Georgia to Ukraine

. You can take a ferry boat connecting Batumi or Poti with Odessa. There are flights from wizzair.com as well. Ferries: www.lstravel.com.ua

Since 2007 we are the main backpackers hostel in Kiev, offering you the best tips and information to move around Ukraine safe, cheap and fun.

WE ARE A HOSTEL FOR YOUNG PEOPLE ! You will have to go upstairs, see beer bottles around and we do listen to music all the time.  The owners do it together and the place it’s comfortable and fun for any young spirit person. We don’t like to say age limit, but better not to book if you want just a bed or a very quiet place.

We promote bar nights, sometimes BBQs, different sightseeing, really in-depth on places that usually you won’t pay attention if following the regular guides. Our tips and humor it’s the difference we can offer, not a new renovated building.

By the way… we are inside a post-war (1945) building. Organized in two separate apartments, we got neighbors which are cool and sometimes even come by to say hi and meet people, we are on the top floor as much as this make our hostel safe, this also can be annoying for people travelling with suitcases or that doesn’t like to climb 3-4 floors.

Our location it’s surrounded by mini-markets and super-markets, 24 hours, student bars, cafeterias, vegetarian restaurants and transportation by bus or tram. The closest metro lines are Vokzal, Universitet or Lukianivska, which are about 15 minutes walk from us, but really, you don’t need to take it to move in the city, you can walk everywhere and it’s a very nice city just to enjoy the parks, always by the main monuments and museums.

Airport (Borispil):

Every 30 minutes, 24 hours a day you can get the bus Nr. 322, also called POLIT (ПОЛIТ) or Skybus, connecting the airport to the Train Station (ВОКЗАЛ – Volkzal),for 25uah (2.5 EUROS) and takes about one hour. Arriving at the train station, be sure to cross to the ‘old side’ where you can see a Mc Donalds right in front, for that you should find the underground passage, under the platforms, so if you see the golden domed church (the new side), leave it behind you walking in the side walk and turn right at the entrance going down (escalators and stairs) that will make you walk under the platforms

Taxis from airport should cost around 150-180uah, negotiate before taking the car.

From Zhiliany Airport, find any bus that can take you to the train station (vokzal central) and follow the directions bellow. By taxi to our place shouldn’t be more than 40-50 UAH.

FROM THE TRAIN STATION

THERE IS A BUS LINE FROM THE TRAIN STATION, right in front of the building find the Yellow buses on the bus stops with the number ’7′ or ’18+7′, pay when you get in (price written behind the driver), the ride will be short and you have to pay attention in two things: once the bus reach a big avenue with a monument with a star on the top and will turn right (the only right turn this bus will make), count the traffic lights after here: 3 traffic lights, after the 3rd one make him understand you want to get down.

Walk down this street, turn the first right and thats Gogolivska Street, go to building number 25 and there are codes to enter the door: 247 (first door, wooden) and 38 (second at the right, metal), than go upstairs, 4 floors on apartments number 11 and 15. NOTE THAT THE CODES TO WORK you should press the all the numbers at the same time.

If you like to walk from the train station, follow this instructions from the train station:

1 – Find the round about in front of the Train Station, leave the building behind you and walk forward on the avenue Kominternu, cross a bridge and turn left on the 2nd street (Saksaganskogo, where the traffic will be flowing to the left as well).

2 – Walk till the end, where you reach a big avenue with a boulevard in the middle and you will be able to see a monument with a star on top. Cross to the other side and keep walking, crossing the following street ( Alesia Gonchara). Now you are walking in Dmitrivska Str.

3 – After crossing Gonchara you keep walking till the next corner, where you will see kyosks selling drinks and snacks, turn right (this is Vorovskoho) and walk up hill, turning the 2nd street to the left, Gogolivska, our street.

4 – Just to have the number 4, we are the number 25 and it all should take you around 15 minutes, we are the closest one to the train station.

The code on the wooden door is 247, you will see another 2 doors, take the right one (metal) with the code 38, remember to press the numbers at the same time.

We are located in apartment #11, ring our doorbell !!
